Animals

An animal is one livestock entry with one or more identifiers and a history of linked records and groups.

Identifiers

Ranch.Bot supports these identifier types:

• name;
• management tag;
• EID;
• brand; and
• tattoo.

One identifier is primary and appears first in lists. Add the identifiers you use in the field so a note like this can resolve to the right animal:

Add an animal

From the Animals page, choose New Animal. Ranch.Bot opens the plain-language capture surface. Describe the animal and its identifier, then review the proposed animal before confirming it.

You can use the same flow from a Conversation or by sending a Text-in note. Assistant-created animals do not save silently.

Start with the identifier in your hand

A management tag or EID is enough to begin. Add other details when they are known rather than guessing during a busy job.

Find and review animals

The Animals page searches the identifiers loaded in the list. Open an animal to review:

• primary and secondary identifiers;
• current status and metadata that has been recorded;
• group membership;
• linked records and weights;
• attached photos already stored with the animal; and
• recent changes with available undo actions.

Correct an animal

Describe the correction in a Ranch.Bot Conversation and review the proposed update before saving. Recent writes may also offer Undo in Change History or on the detail view.

Do not create a second animal merely to fix an identifier. Ask Ranch.Bot to update the existing animal and check the proposal identifies the right one.

Animals and groups

An animal can belong to more than one group. Group membership helps apply one event to the animals managed together. Adding an animal later does not rewrite old group records onto that animal.

Common questions

Can two animals have the same name?

Yes, but add a distinct management tag or EID so Ranch.Bot can tell them apart.

Can I add animals from a spreadsheet?

Yes, through the supervised process in Data Import. Uploading the file does not write animals until the proposed import has been reviewed and approved.

Can a texted photo create an animal?

No. Texted photos are stored for the account, but are not currently shown in the conversation or extracted into animals or records.
